Rael Birns was one of the Sponsorship Consultants to the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, and worked with various promoters regarding international acts touring South Africa, such as CROSBY STILLS NASH and QKUMBA ZOO.

He has addressed the WITWATERSRAND UNIVERSITY BUSINESS SCHOOL and the Music Industry Development Initiative Trust (MIDI) on aspects of co-ordination and related marketing in the music, broadcast and entertainment industries. 

During 1998 Rael wrote the STUFF column for the Sunday Times Lifestyle supplement.

Rael Birns helped conceptualise and then co-ordinated the MUSIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME - which ran for about three years - organising the primary sponsorship through WILLARDS, and co-sponsorships with SABC's 5FM, SAfm, Radio Metro and Radio Zulu, as well as co-hosting THE WORKSHOP on SAfm with Denzil Weale on a weekly basis.

In 1997 Rael was contracted as Tour Manager and Executive Producer by CF Beyers Naude Development Foundation to produce and manage The Hidden Years Band and Alexandra Choir trip to USA, culminating in a performance at the WOODSTOCK revival festival attended by the then SA Consul General to UN, Sheila Sisulu.

Rael Birns has acted as consulting personal manager to artists such as MARA LOUW, negotiating her special guest appearance at the International Song Contest in Cairo, and on a similar basis as Executive Producer and Executive Manager for WENDY OLDFIELD and ANDRE HATTINGH.

He arranged with Sony BMG the release of JOHNNY CLEGG's production of PAUL CLINGMAN.
